RAIPUR: Three men were arrested with tiger skins while they were trying to sell these in Chhattisgarh, police said here Friday.

According to police, the three men were arrested under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, Thursday evening by forest department officials in Kanker district's Bhanupratapur area, some 240 km south from state capital Raipur.

According to the forest department, two tiger skins were seized from them and were valued at over Rs.500,000 in international market.

"The three were arrested based on specific intelligence inputs. They could be members of an inter-state poaching gang. The police are investigating," Arun Kumar Pandey, forest conservator in Kanker, told IANS over phone.

He said that since January this year 17 people have been arrested in Kanker district for anti-poaching activities.

Israel are growing trees using saltwarer in Desert

Scientists in Israel are growing trees in the barren land of the Arava desert by using recycled sewage and saltwater.

This forest planted over the summer is soaking up harmful excess carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and releasing beneficial oxygen, Isarel's nocamels.com reported.

The environmentalists involved in the project hope that it would not only help reduce humanity's carbon footprint but will also show how all nations could establish a local plant species on a piece of land thought unusable, to improve air quality.

Once the trees grow up, they are also hoped to turn a renewable source of biofuel, reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

India, Central Asia and Africa in particular have large swathes of such land, including the Sahara desert.

The project is a research collaboration between Tel Aviv University's Porter School of Environmental Science, the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and the University of Tuscia in Viterbo, Italy.

Save Tree

Unfortunately, the energy that really puts things into motion, is money, and the same is true for We Save Trees. We are allways finding more creative ways to save money and resources all the time, but there is allways more trees falling, and therefore more work to be done to stop it. There is allways a huge cell phone bill that needs to be paid, treesits to build, sitters to feed, and movies to be made! Thanks for your contributions to We Save Trees. We commit to doing what is in the best interest of the forest. Treesitter needs and media outreach make up the bulk of our expenses. We will continue to strive towards a better future for our forests, our communities, and our world. We also need: Tree Climbers, Tree Sitters, Ground Supporters, Musicians, Lawyers, Media Contacts, Cameras, Computer Equipment, Ropes, Climbing Harnesses, Head Lamps (Petzl), Tarps, Bivy Sacks, Cargo Nets, Food, Chocolate, Wool Clothing, Synthetic Long Underwear, Raingear, Creativity, and You!

God, created world advocating delicate balance among the living things to ensure its pristine environment. Humans have now realised that their selfish goals have landed them in deep trouble and desperately wish to set right the balance, if it could be referred so. Vegetation cover has blessed humans with innumerable benefits. It is indeed time that we recognise this and provide the unbiased preference that it deserves in the present day context. Is it not our responsbility to pass on the nature that we enjoyed to our younger generation?
